Question 1

Could my child qualify for scholarship support?

Accepted Answer

For 2026-27 onward, Indiana students in grades K-12 have universal eligibility, regardless of household income. Before choosing a school, verify its participation and the current program requirements with the Indiana Department of Education.

Question 2

Does a voucher come to us or go to the school?

Accepted Answer

The state sends Choice Scholarship funding to the participating private school to offset tuition and fees for your child. Vouchers are not cash payments to parents, so there is no family reimbursement to manage.

Question 3

Does our household’s earnings affect eligibility?

Accepted Answer

There is no income ceiling. The change took effect July 1, 2026, for the 2026-27 school year, making eligibility universal for Indiana K-12 students.

Question 4

Is learning from home an option with a voucher?

Accepted Answer

A participating school may provide an approved online or individualized program. Check that the specific program accepts Choice Scholarship students rather than assuming every online school does. INDILA is an online option to include in your comparisons.

Question 5

Who handles the scholarship forms?

Accepted Answer

Begin with admission to a participating school. Once your child has been accepted, the school usually prepares and submits your family’s Choice Scholarship application to the Indiana Department of Education, requesting supporting documents from you as needed.

Question 6

What should we look for when comparing schools?

Accepted Answer

Think about your child’s learning needs before comparing public, charter, private, homeschool or online settings. Visit shortlisted schools, speak with families and ask about teaching, class sizes and the total price. The best choice schools fit the student; searching for the best vouchers alone cannot tell you which environment will work.

Question 7

How early should our family begin planning?

Accepted Answer

Scholarship applications usually open during the spring ahead of the school year. A school’s admission dates may differ, so ask both about enrollment and voucher timing. Use the Indiana DOE’s annual published dates for the exact state deadlines.

Question 8

What expenses might we still need to budget for?

Accepted Answer

Request an itemized estimate from the school. Your family may owe tuition or fees above the award, as well as expenses such as transport, uniforms or extracurricular activities. A voucher does not necessarily eliminate every cost.

Question 9

Does the award carry over automatically next year?

Accepted Answer

Generally, no: scholarship renewal is an annual process, and your child must still satisfy the program’s requirements. Ask the school to explain its renewal paperwork and timing before the next school year.

Question 10

Which source should we trust for current program details?

Accepted Answer

Consult the Indiana Department of Education for the authoritative program rules, award figures, application dates and participating-school directory. Use those details to double-check what you hear while researching schools.
